To live the life you really love, you need to control your destiny. Be brave, be courageous and be the best version of yourself.
You only need to watch the news or scroll through a few social media posts to see it. People blaming others for their misfortunes or lack of success.
“My parents didn’t let me…” or “nobody informed me…”
These are the people who will never be happy. They will never create the life they want.
The problem is that these people need someone to blame when things go wrong. If they can’t blame their misfortunes on others, there is no one else to blame but themselves. That’s a heavy load to bear and most people are not willing to do it.
Are you living the life you love?
Are you where you want to be in your life? In your career? In your relationships? If not, why not? Who or what is holding you back?
As an adult, you are responsible for the choices you make. It can often be tempting to blame someone else for your situation but ultimately, it’s all up to you. And I have to say this…
Even if someone else was actively involved in getting you into your present situation, you don’t have to stay there. You can remain and point the finger, and never get anywhere, or you can take responsibility for your life and make some changes. If you are stuck, it is by your own choice. You control your destiny.
Responsibility demands courage
I love this quote, even though no-one knows who said it first.
“The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off.”
It takes a brave person to accept responsibility for the position they find themselves in. It takes courage to accept your mistakes and to acknowledge your poor choices. It takes courage to admit to your weaknesses and admit we need to change.
Above all, it demands courage to control your destiny.
When you take responsibility for yourself and your choices, there’s nothing left to hide behind. We’re parting the curtains on the show to look behind and see how it works. You will come face to face with yourself.
(Be ready to be “pissed off”.)
What courage do you need?
To control your destiny, you need to be at the helm of your ship. Be brave, be courageous and find the courage.
#1. The courage to look within
It takes a brave person to break free of a mould which does not fit. Take a look inside and find what feels right. Only you can plan your right way forward.
#2. The courage to be you, both perfect and imperfect
This is not easy. You will find actions or parts of yourself you don’t like and parts that you do. Accepting them both as part of the whole you is important. Without acceptance, you can’t change the negative or make the most of the positive.
#3. The courage to change and live your true life
In our lives and careers, we are often expected to be like everyone else. But where is the fulfilment in doing something you don’t love, or in becoming someone you are not cut out for? Can you really tolerate a lifetime of that?
Is it really worth it?
That’s a question I’m often asked. Is it really worth it?
Is it worth all the self-analysis and self-reflection? Is it worth the hassle of shrugging off the ill-fitting you or abandoning my present for a shiny, new future?
Of course, it is!
If you never take responsibility for your own life, you are leaving it permanently in the hands of others. Whose life are you really living?
Allanah Hunt says,
“It is only when you take responsibility for your life that you discover how powerful you truly are.”
But, I would go further and say it is the only way to discover who you truly are.
The greatest form of courage is the courage to take responsibility for your own life and to take action to live a life you love.
Can you do it?
Will you do it?
Believe me, when you control your destiny, the rewards are worth it.
