It is true the start of a New Year gives us a reason to press a giant restart button. We set our new yearly intention, create goals that excite us and step into a new us. Traditionally called ‘New Years Resolutions’. We create them on December 31 and then by January 4 we have forgotten them, or we are feeling overwhelmed. It’s hard to stay on purpose – all year.

For those of us with Children, we start to get impatient for childcare or school to start again. Feeling a loss of momentum and energy with our new goals daily. Excited to get stuck into them, yet being held back by our parenting role.

For others, the call of summer fun and relaxation moves our headspace away from ‘work’. Preferring to hang out at the beach, by a river or reading in the backyard – whatever you are lucky enough to be doing. We feel de-motivated to shift back into work mode and then start to feel our goals slipping away.

How about if you set your intention, created your goals, stepped into the new you – and allowed January to be a time you were present with your children and you took re-charge time. Does that sound like something you could achieve? It is possible to step away from the movement of time and then step back into it when we our life allows it. Let me share some of my tips with you, hopefully, they will make it easier for you.

Here is what I do to wrap up the current year and get excited about the next year, and I start this in November. However, it is never too late to press that reset button – it is not only here for New Years.

Step One: Review your previous year plans. What did you achieve, which things did you get some completion and what did you forget about? What needs to show up in next years plan. What can you complete now?

Step Two: Which support worked best and what do you need to do more off? What support do you need to create or seek out? How will you stay focused and accountable?

Step Three: Set your intention and goals for the new year. Brainstorm with your support to make sure you are aiming high enough and on the right path. Break your goals down into quarters, then monthly then set weekly actions – so that every day you are working towards your big picture. Allow for down-time (like January, holidays you want to take – or every school holiday if you need to!)

Step Four: Tidy up all the loose ends from this year. What do you need to do tick off some of those unfinished goals? Say no to new opportunities or defer them to the following year. Consider invites to Christmas parties and the like, try not to get distracted by the festive season. What is more important being festive now or relaxing in January?

Step Five: Celebrate all your success from the previous year. Your business achievements. Family achievements and self. Give yourself a reward.

Step Six: Allow for your business to be in maintenance mode over January. Pre-schedule social media posts and newsletters. Automate your processes – especially those that are income generating.

Ending your year with completed goals and an in-control to-do list, and your January promotion looking after itself. You will feel achievement and be able to relax, giving yourself headspace to rejuvenate before starting another crazy and fulfilling year.

It is true the start of a New Year gives us a reason to press a giant restart button.
